Laindatang Drilling Operation Temporarily Halted and Fair Future Changes Course as a Result! After...
At Fair Future Foundation, we are dedicated to delivering essential healthcare, clean water, and nutritious food to those most in need. In Ultra-Rural Areas, we are aggressively combatting the resurgence of polio and endemic malaria and ensuring children's health through our Primary Medical Care and Water Connections programs. Our unwavering commitment drives us to create lasting change, with 93% of our funds directly invested in these crucial initiatives. Together, we are steadfastly building a healthier future.
The #WaterConnections project is a beacon of hope amidst the hardships of the remote community of Laindatang, located in the heart of the rural landscape of East Sumba. The challenges facing this region are unimaginable and severe.
Access to clean water, considered a basic human right, is limited in this region. Basic amenities such as electricity and clean sanitation are scarce or completely non-existent. Children face endurance challenges every day as they walk 5 to 10 kilometers over rough terrain, barefoot, just to go to school; however, upon arrival, they find no water fountains or toilets available. In addition, teachers who stay in the so-called official premises, face constant daily challenges in carrying out their duties.
Before sunrise, these dedicated educators wake up without any access to electricity and prepare breakfast for their own children as well as a few other teachers living in this old wooden building with no amenities. In addition to this daily routine, they also tend to the chickens that provide them with much-needed protein. Unfortunately, basic needs such as washing and going to the toilet require minimal amounts of water and makeshift solutions due to the lack of facilities – something that most people would hardly find unimaginable. Fortunately, this is about to change dramatically. The #WaterConnections project has introduced Phases 1 to 3, through which the infrastructure renovation will make a huge difference in improving the living conditions of this community.
Collaboration, community involvement and support from organizations such as the Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik have enabled a successful transformation. Phase 2 focuses on providing safe Clean Water to over 100 families by creating new sources while addressing health risks that have affected the area for generations with sanitation facilities. In addition, infrastructure improvements are underway to create safer learning environments for 80 schoolchildren in the area.
The project’s agenda includes advancing the Nutrition for All program, expanding the Primary Health Care initiative throughout the region, and continuing efforts to eradicate malaria in Laindatang.
