The Fair Future Foundation has made significant efforts to provide clean water to 600 people in Laindatang, East Sumba.
This initiative has improved hygiene, reduced disease risk, and taught this highly rural community sustainable living practices.
In recent months, Fair Future Foundation teams have intensified their efforts on the Water Connections project in Laindatang, a crucial initiative to ensure access to clean water for this isolated community in East Sumba. Phases 2 and 3 of this project were marked by intense drilling work, providing water sources to 600 people, including nearly 100 children attending the Laindatang school.
In recent months, Fair Future Foundation teams have intensified efforts on the Water Connections project in Laindatang, East Sumba. Phases 2 and 3 involved intense drilling, providing clean water to 600 people, including nearly 80 schoolchildren.
For the first time in the region’s history, residents have access to clean water, which significantly improves their quality of life, reduces infectious diseases, and promotes basic hygiene like hand washing. This clean water helps combat malaria, polio, dengue fever, and tuberculosis.
Our mission extends beyond water access. We organized education days for children and parents, teaching healthy living principles. Using educational materials and six posters, our teams demonstrated how a healthy diet can transform the community’s health. Our dietitian explained how to choose, grow, and cook nutritious foods, captivating adults and sparking their desire for change. We also taught hygiene, instilling habits like frequent hand washing.
Clean water enables villagers to grow their vegetables. We teach gardening and cooking techniques for balanced meals. Throughout the project, we cooked healthy meals for the children, improving their growth, concentration, and overall health.
The drilling was arduous and under challenging conditions. After three months, we found precious water, a first in Laindatang’s history, symbolizing our commitment to improving the living conditions of vulnerable populations. We still need weeks to stabilize the well, build a 10,000-liter reservoir, and secure funds for solar pumping installations. We are discussing this with Lorentz, and we hope this German company will help Laindatang.
Thanks to this clean water, we will expand programs like #WaterConnections and Kawan Sehat, ensuring a healthier life for these ultra-rural communities.
The Fair Future Foundation continues to make significant progress with local community collaboration. Our efforts show that even the most demanding challenges can be overcome. Thank you to all the supporters. Together, we are building a fairer, healthier future.

Laindatang Water Connections: A Revolution in Water Access to Transform the Lives of 600 Residents
From Education to Nutrition and Health: Our Story on the Radical Change in Laindatang Through Phases 2, 3, and the Start of Phase 4 of the #WaterConnections Project
The past four months have been intense work and remarkable progress for the Water Connections project in Laindatang, East Sumba. This project, which aims to provide clean water to an entire community, has reached the crucial milestones of phases 2 and 3 and is now entering phase 4. More than 600 people, including nearly 100 children attending Laindatang school, now benefit from clean water sources. Their lives have been transformed, and this change is only just beginning.
Access to clean water has a profound impact on every aspect of life in this community. The education and training days we organized for children and their parents were essential in promoting healthy living. We taught them how to prevent disease, improve their diet and use available resources efficiently. Our training materials, in particular the six posters that we have produced, are valuable tools in this educational process. With clean water, gardening becomes an accessible and productive activity. Growing your vegetables is no longer a distant dream but a daily reality for the residents of Laindatang. We not only teach them how to grow these vegetables but also how to cook them to maximize their nutritional benefits. These skills are crucial in the fight against malnutrition, which mainly affects children in this region.
The drilling work, carried out with unequal intensity and determination, lasted three months. Although we are not yet finished, we are getting closer to the goal. The water is there and ready to be distributed throughout the Laindatang region. Thanks to our collective efforts, drilling was carried out for the first time in this region’s history.
Access to clean water is the foundation of our fight against infectious diseases such as malaria, polio, dengue and tuberculosis. Without clean water, these diseases continue to spread and threaten the health and lives of the population. Thanks to Fair Future, the Laindatang community finally sees a glimmer of hope in this fierce struggle.
We would like to warmly thank everyone who supports us in this mission, including Rotary Australia, who came to spend a week with us on-site. Your help is invaluable, and together, we manage to achieve miracles. The images we share today tell a story of resilience, progress and transformation. They are a reflection of our unwavering commitment to this community and our determination to create a better future. Look at these magnificent images. They demonstrate the positive changes brought about by the Water Connections project and our profound impact on the lives of the people of Laindatang. Let’s continue to move forward together, fight inequality, and provide these communities with the vital resources they need to thrive.
