Absolute distress in terms of access to drinking water here in Napu, Wunga, Sumba Timur (NTT).
An unsafe water source is a primary option. The 2nd is to drink unboiled and unfiltered rainwater, it’s easier, less far away and above all less tiring.
Families have no other choice in terms of access to water. Absolutely no other! Unclean water, or potentially dangerous rainwater IF not boiled, treated, filtered or stagnant.
But they are already so used to “kita sudah biasa” they always answer us. Accustomed to drinking unclean water, accustomed to chronic diseases, malnutrition and various deficiencies, skin problems, pain in the body, chronic bronchitis, but also a rate of Dengue and Malaria that defies understanding linked mainly to stagnant water stored in open reservoirs (mosquitoes proliferating there massively)
Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia will never get used to this. The trivialization of problems leads to closing our eyes, to no longer seeing what is good and what is bad “kita tidak bisa terbiasa”. We act to make life healthier, better, in an innovative and sustainable way.
The actions carried out in the most rural and poorest regions of Indonesia in terms of access to health, clean water and efficient sanitation systems are successes and improve thousands of lives! These actions are remedies for families.
The collection of socio-sanitary data in villages where often no road leads, not only helps the foundation in its strategic choices for the implementation of solutions for tomorrow but also meets a real need of the local political authorities with whom we collaborate.
