Our teams have been on the SD Mbinudita site, East Sumba, for two months, for the Water Connections, clean, safe water and sanitation for all projects.
As mentioned above, we have been in the field for two months, every day and my faith, although a little tired all the same, we are making remarkable progress in the achievements of socio-sanitary projects, in particular, the Water Connections project, on the Mbinudita site.
This evening very late (when almost all of the East Sumba region is without electricity, the only PLN production plant in the area had burned down), all Kawan Baik Indonesia and Fair Future Foundation team are back from our school in #sdmbinudita.
We built this school between 2019 and 2021. It has more than 120 children aged 7 to 12, all living in rural areas where no house has electricity or direct water access.
In these 360-degree images, you can see that making such a construction here was the ultimate challenge. Indeed, when we started the #rebuildmbinudita or #bangunmbinudita project, there was no water, access, or electricity here. And we built this huge, beautiful school on top of the highest hill in the area, over two hours drive from Waingapu.
Almost all the materials used to build this school were purchased and transported from Surabaya. This was the case for the metal structure of several tens of tons, all the bricks (more than 15,000), and other materials absolutely impossible to find here in Sumba East, in all more than two containers filled.
Today and as I said above, the school has more than 120 children who come there daily. Since June 25, 2022, the school has become a public school (Negeri), and two more classes will be added soon. Since our investment here, the number of students has increased from 60 to 120.
Also, today, a large number of villagers (more than 2,500 people -the majority of whom are children), have access to clean, non-lethal water, thanks to our better health access program (#kawansehat), which is part of the #waterconnections project.
The Water Connections program has been running for 12 months in the field. It aims to find the best solutions to provide access to clean water to families who have never had access to it. We drill deep wells to access clean, healthy water.
Then we distribute this water using fittings and pipes that we bury, then stored in concrete Ferro-cement tanks that again, we build ourselves, with our hands. We filter this water using a process that combines natural materials, innovation, ecology and ingenuity.

For a few months -thanks to the Water Connections program–, the, families are feeling healthier, happier and have much more energy. The villagers, who are 100% farmers are much less sick, and they are in better health. Vegetable gardens are created, and an economy is built.
Women and children spend much less time fetching water from wells far from homes. As a result, children spend more time in school, and adults have more time to do things they couldn’t do before. On the other hand, water remains the absolute priority of each of the 250 families of #mbinudita, well before everything else!
Today, we are building healthy sanitary facilities for the village and the villagers. Like all other families living in ultra-rural areas, people have never had access to toilets or a place to bathe or do laundry.
The toilets we build are made using the Ferro-cement manufacturing process, directly on the sites of the neighbourhoods of houses, by the villagers and our field teams. But this will be the subject of a particular and specific article that we will be happy to publish quickly.
It should also be noted that the school, the ten sanitary facilities, and the more than ten 6,500-litre tanks were built by teams from the Fair Future and Kawan Baik Indonesia foundations and by all the villagers. We still have several sanitary facilities to make.
Working together on the sites where Kawan Baik Indonesia and Fair Future Foundation are at work makes this adventure even more exceptional humanly.
