Fair Future Builds a 110,000L Water Reservoir to Secure Clean Water in Laindatang
A Sustainable Solution to Provide Water in One of the Driest Regions on Earth
In May 2025, Fair Future is set to begin constructing a semi-underground water reservoir with a capacity of 110 cubic meters in Laindatang. This initiative aims to offer sustainable access to clean water for 300 residents, including more than 100 children. Located in one of the driest regions on Earth, where daily life is threatened by severe water scarcity, this project serves as an essential solution for improving local living conditions.
From February to November 2024, our teams engaged in intensive drilling efforts over nine months with the aim of discovering an underground aquifer capable of supporting the community. Unfortunately, despite these endeavors, we did not locate any adequately replenished groundwater sources. Instead of leaving Laindatang without alternatives, we chose to invest in a new water storage solution that will enable the village to collect, store, and filter rainwater for continuous access—especially during emergencies when other sources are depleted.
A Humanitarian Engineering Project with Complete Funding
The project has a total cost of 252 million IDR (14,000 CHF), which the generosity of our donors has completely covered. We extend special thanks to the engineer and architect spearheading this effort; they have chosen not to profit from their involvement and will work at cost price, covering only materials and labor expenses. Their expertise is crucial for such an undertaking, as it demands advanced calculations, engineering precision, and meticulous material selection—skills that exceed those available within our field teams.
An Extraordinary Challenge in Logistics and Technology
Laindatang is among the most remote areas where Fair Future works. In 2023, our teams manually constructed an 8-kilometer access road solely to deliver supplies and medical personnel to the village. This community faces a stark reality with no water, electricity, or infrastructure in place.
Despite these challenges, we are dedicated to constructing a durable and life-saving water storage system in record time. The construction phase is expected to last about two months and will engage Fair Future’s teams, specialized workers, and local villagers. This collaboration allows the community members to contribute while acquiring valuable skills in modern construction techniques.
A Future Without the Daily Struggle for Water
This 110,000-liter reservoir will provide the people of Laindatang with a reliable and long-lasting water source, significantly lowering the chances of waterborne illnesses, malnutrition, and severe dehydration. This initiative is more than just an infrastructure project; it represents a vital step in saving lives and fostering hope for a brighter future.
We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this initiative. Your support transforms lives in one of the world’s most water-insecure regions.
