Handwashing at Rumah Kambera will have a place in the plans for our new socio-medical centre in East Sumba. With support from Rotary Australia, the Rotary Club of Mandurah Districts and our friend John Kevan, we are preparing facilities that children and adults can use, alongside practical hygiene education.
Soap and water help interrupt the spread of infections that cause diarrhoea. A low basin within a child’s reach, a reliable water supply, and a place for wastewater to drain make that advice easier to follow. The plans will include the medical centre, office, toilets and cooking area.
Installation is planned for 2027 as construction progresses. We still need to define locations, plumbing, and costs. Thank you, John and our Rotary friends, for helping us build prevention into the places where people will receive care, learn and share meals.
