Malnutrition is an infection multiplier in East Sumba, where one child in three faces growth delay. Undernutrition weakens cellular immunity, increases infection severity, and turns common illnesses into life-threatening complications. Restoring nutrition means restoring immune defense and survival.
The Nutrition and Food Program helps rural families access better food, grow home gardens, and improve their health. Linked to clean water, it tackles malnutrition and supports children’s development. In ultra-rural areas, food is not a given; it’s a survival challenge we face together.
Fair Future Foundation’s Water Connections initiative in Lapinu ensures sustainable access to clean water and sanitation. By implementing solar-powered pumps, reservoirs, and modern toilets, this project will significantly enhance the health, dignity, and future prospects of this remote village. Tuberculosis cases are increasing in ultra-rural communities in eastern Indonesia, due to inadequate living conditions, limited access to healthcare, and malnutrition. We have distributed our healthy living posters to local Puskesmas (health centers), and their directors were delighted. The posters are engaging and easy to comprehend, incorporating local characters and language. Teaching rural communities simple methods for disease prevention, such as handwashing, is truly rewarding.
With our Rotary International partners, we’ve printed thousands of posters promoting healthy living and disease prevention in regions where diseases like malaria are endemic. These posters, available in both laminated and fabric formats, will be distributed across ultra-rural areas, schools, medical centers, and public spaces.

Fair Future actively supports ultra-rural communities with limited access to a diverse diet by raising awareness about local food resources. Our nutritionists teach families how to identify and prepare wild plants, fruits, and vegetables that are highly nutritious. Our programs contribute to child health, family resilience, and community building, while promoting sustainable living practices in areas where clean water and access to food are lacking.
