In East Sumba, nearly 12,000 students face the challenge of studying without electricity. Through Light Up the Future, Fair Future Foundation is distributing 2,224 solar lamps to over 2,000 children in 24 remote schools, bringing safe, renewable light to improve education, health, and daily life.

2024 units SolarBuddy lights are leaving from Canberra, Australia! 2000 children’s lights and 24 larger ones for schools will arrive in Surabaya within a month. We are preparing the customs documents and will use our Truck and Roll to pick them up. This vast operation will bring light to nearly 2500 people, transforming their lives
In ultra-rural villages lacking electricity, SolarBuddy lamps provided by Fair Future and Rotary illuminate kitchens and pathways at night. During the day, these lamps recharge when hung on trees or fences, preparing to light up homes and paths in the evening. This straightforward solution brings safety and brightness to families who need it most.
A 14-year-old girl from Hudumburung, abandoned by her family due to poverty, has endured severe illness for years. Thanks to Kawan Sehat’s intervention, she is now undergoing essential medical tests and receiving care—her first step toward a better future. Many more children in remote regions remain without help.
As part of our infectious disease prevention programs, we are producing audio spots broadcast on local and national Indonesian radio stations. These spots feature real-life scenes from rural families and are voiced by our doctors and collaborators. Filled with humor, they are highly effective in spreading awareness.
Today at the Laindatang Water Connections site, we met with the 78 schoolchildren, each receiving a bamboo cotton t-shirt with a drawing of 13-year-old Eben, a local child. The artwork symbolises our completed water supply project for the village, which includes tanks, toilets and access to clean water. The children were delighted not only to have clean water but also to receive these unique t-shirts!
In the remote communities of East Sumba, 20 new Kawan Sehat health agents have been certified through the Primary Medical Care program. These 19 women and one man are now essential providers of life-saving care in their villages, which lack formal healthcare facilities. Their dedication and increasing proficiency are crucial for the well-being of their communities, representing a significant milestone in rural healthcare.
