Today, we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Foundation as we continue to impact the ultra-rural communities of Eastern Indonesia positively.
For 15 years, our mission has been to provide lifesaving medical care, clean water, and real change to everyone who needs it. Let’s commemorate this important milestone together and continue transforming lives for the better.
Yes… Today, on February 6, 2024, while I am in East Sumba, at our Waingapu socio-medical base camp (Rumah Kambera), marks a significant milestone in the history of our Swiss Medical Foundation, the Fair Future Foundation. Indeed, it is the fifteenth anniversary of our unwavering and daily commitment to the most vulnerable communities, those from the most rural and disadvantaged regions.
This date, which goes almost unnoticed by the outside world, holds profound meaning for me, Alex Wettstein, founder, president, and head of field activities for Fair Future. It has also been fifteen years since I dedicated myself wholeheartedly as a volunteer to this noble cause.
Since the very first day of this humanitarian adventure, my mission has been to bring hope where deep despair prevailed. Each of our programs, every hospital we’ve built, every school we’ve established, and every water well we’ve drilled, every patient we’ve treated, every life we’ve saved has been a cornerstone in the profound transformation of the lives of the people we’ve touched.
However, it is crucial to remain humble in the face of the magnitude of our task. On this fifteenth anniversary, it is imperative to remember that the needs of the communities we support remain immense. The challenges we face are still many, and our resources, while precious, are constantly in demand.
In this context, I am embarking on my sixteenth year volunteering with Fair Future. Even though it feels like it was just yesterday when I started, each day brings new challenges and victories to celebrate. Even the small successes hold deep significance, like seeing a child’s face light up as they receive medical care or a family gaining access to clean water, sanitation, medical care, or electricity for the first time. These experiences reinforce our belief that our efforts are worthwhile.
Indeed, our mission has never been more crucial. The words #PrimaryMedicalCare, #ZeroMalaria, #WaterConnections, or #TruckofLife are not just hashtags but concrete realities embedded in our daily actions. We fight to eradicate scourges such as malaria, tuberculosis, polio, and other infectious diseases that harshly affect the ultra-rural populations we serve.
Hunger and famine, accompanied by the resulting infant mortality, are constant challenges we must face. These problems are not abstract but integral to the daily reality of many families we support.
Fair Future has been empowering communities and impacting humanity for 15 years through healthcare, education, and human rights, embodying the essence of transformative change in humanitarianism, from grassroots beginnings to global influence. Alex Wettstein – Founder and CEO.
Understanding the devastating impact of these diseases and shortages on ultra-rural populations is crucial. We cannot afford to ignore these harsh realities as they are at the core of our commitment.
What makes Fair Future unique is that we are not just a charitable organization. The members of our board, including myself, are directly involved on the ground, actively participating in all the social and medical operations we undertake. This approach embodies our deep dedication and commitment to the cause we uphold.
On this fifteenth anniversary, I wish to express my gratitude to all those who have supported Fair Future over the years. Your donations and your support have been essential in allowing us to continue our mission. We still have a long way to go. Still, every step brings us closer to our goal of providing access to quality medical care, clean water, education, and other essential needs for ultra-rural populations.
Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can bring hope where it is desperately needed. Together, we can continue to save lives and transform destinies. On this special day, I invite all of you to join us in our mission, to become agents of change, to share our story, and to contribute to our cause.
Together, we can build a better future for the communities we serve. Fair Future would be nothing without you, our dedicated friends and partners. In this time of celebration, let us always remember that the battle is tough, but together, we are stronger and can achieve great things.
Thank you for your continuous support, and may this fifteenth year be marked by new successes and achievements for Fair Future and the populations we help.
With gratitude and determination,

Fifteen years of work in the service of humanity plus more than a hundred original images.
2,224 SolarBuddy lamps have been installed from Surabaya to Sumba to ensure power safety and education in 24 villages.
A humanitarian mission from Australia to Rumah Kambera transforms logistics into a sustainable health impact.
After months of preparation and coordination, 2,224 SolarBuddy lamps have reached their destination in East Sumba. From the port of Surabaya to the new storage space at Rumah Kambera, this operation marks a turning point in Fair Future’s logistics and outreach capabilities. These are not merely boxes of lights but instruments of prevention, education, and community resilience.
Cleared tax-free under a historic humanitarian exemption, the lamps arrived in Indonesia thanks to the unwavering support of SolarBuddy Australia and Rotary International. Once in Denpasar, our team meticulously documented, repacked, and staged each lamp for safe transfer across land and sea. Volunteers carefully loaded every box into the Truck n’Load and partner vehicles for the journey eastward.
In Rumah Kambera, a dedicated storage facility was prepared to receive the shipment. The bright yellow boxes, neatly stacked, now fill the foundation’s new warehouse, ready for deployment to 26 ultra-rural villages and dozens of off-grid schools. The SolarBuddy Tracker app, developed in-house, will ensure every lamp is registered, traceable, and linked to its recipient.
These lamps are more than solar-powered devices. They reduce the risks of burns and respiratory issues from kerosene, allow children to study safely at night, and allow families to cook and walk without fear in the dark. Light becomes a tool for injury prevention and educational equity in areas with minimal access to healthcare.
Each step—from customs clearance to local coordination—required precision, documentation, and tireless dedication. Behind every lamp are names, hands, and kilometres travelled. This distribution is part of a long-term commitment to improving living conditions through sustainable, community-driven solutions.
The lamps are here. The mission moves forward. What arrives today is light, dignity, protection, and future opportunity.
