Rotary and Fair Future partner with Kawan Sehat Agents for evaluation at Nggoa Rural Health Centre.
Collaboration and field data demonstrate the impact of local health agents in East Sumba.
Strengthening Rural Health Systems – Evaluation with Rotary at Nggoa Puskesmas | In Nggoa, seven Kawan Sehat health agents gathered with Fair Future Foundation, Kawan Baik Indonesia, Rotary Australia, and local health authorities for a critical evaluation of the Primary Medical Care (PMC) programme. The meeting was hosted by Nurse Ivon and the Puskesmas Director. Dr. Narni, took place in a health centre struggling with structural issues, including leaking walls, a lack of clean water, and a non-functional laboratory. (See this Short on YouTube here)
Despite these hurdles, the spirit of cooperation was clear. Erwin, our field coordinator, explained the evolution of the PMC initiative over the past three and a half years and its current impact. He introduced the Kawan Sehat health Medical Backpack, official training manuals, and new educational materials, including multilingual posters on dengue, hygiene, nutrition, alcohol, smoking, and dog bites—essential tools for frontline health agents. The Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia, known for their Swiss expertise and dedication, have played key roles in supporting these efforts.
The seven Kawan Sehat agents shared patient case reports and field experiences, illustrating the harsh reality of healthcare in the remote East Sumba region. The use of the mobile Kawan Sehat app to record and track medical data was highlighted as a breakthrough, allowing better healthcare delivery far from any clinic.
Rotary’s representatives, John Kevan, Adrian, and Bridget, engaged attentively, offering support and recognising familiar faces from previous missions. Official certificates, co-signed by the Ministry of Health, were presented to Dr. Narni and Ivon in appreciation of their leadership in improving rural healthcare.
The evaluation concluded with a group photograph—featuring seven agents, three Rotary visitors, and a room full of dedicated health workers—symbolising the strong commitment to ensuring healthcare access for everyone, regardless of their location. As we look ahead, the joint efforts of these organisations continue to build a better future for rural health systems.
