Renewing Hope in Wairara, Mahu: Restoring Clean Water Access Amidst Adversity
An Intimate Journey Through Our Day of Dedication and Resolve in Wairara, Mahu – A Pictorial Chronicle of Community Resilience and the Quest for Clean Water
On December 1, 2023, a crucial evaluation was conducted in the remote village of Wairara in Indonesia. The Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik teams collaborated to assess and repair the vital Lorentz© solar water system. This system serves as a lifeline for the disadvantaged community, providing them with access to clean and safe water.
Water is the essence of life, and any disruption in its supply can lead to immediate health crises. Our commitment to preserving the health and well-being of communities like Wairara is unwavering, and this determination was concretely manifested in our mission on that day.
Our team, battling the unforgiving heat and challenging terrain, worked tirelessly to assess the water situation in Wairara, Mahu. We meticulously traced the pipelines, accurately located the Lorentz© pump and associated equipment, and conducted a thorough evaluation. Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and we are determined to uphold it.
In Wairara, the situation with our submersible Lorentz© pump had reached a critical point. It was entirely out of service and no longer operational. While there were minor issues with the Lorentz© solar panels and converters, these challenges were manageable. However, the urgent concern was the repair or replacement of the vital pump, which served as a lifeline for the villagers. Access to clean water is non-negotiable for their well-being, and we were resolute in our commitment to address this challenge swiftly.
As we climbed steep hills, walked long distances, and faced the constant threat of mosquitoes, our team was dedicated to resolving this crisis. The sight of approximately sixty Lorentz© solar panels perched atop the hill in this ultra-rural region offered a glimmer of hope. They appeared in relatively good condition, with minor repairs needed to restore them to full functionality. However, the primary focus remained on urgently replacing the submersible Lorentz© pump.
After a rigorous three-hour on-site assessment, our team returned from the location where the Lorentz© equipment and the critical water source were malfunctioning, affecting the isolated village without electricity: Wairara, Mahu. We outlined a comprehensive action plan and were responsible for implementing it with the support of local authorities.
Access to clean water profoundly impacts the health and well-being of these ultra-rural populations in Eastern Indonesia. Our commitment to providing essential social and medical assistance to the most vulnerable communities remains steadfast. Reproducing the Lorentz© solar water system in Wairara, Mahu, was just one step in our ongoing journey.
Furthermore, we are pleased to inform you that we should be able to proceed with a temporary repair in early 2024 while we await the opportunity to replace the costly Lorentz© pump, which amounts to more than CHF 4,000.-
