Rotary International and Fair Future Foundation Join Forces to Transform Laindatang with Clean Water and Health Initiatives. Celebrating 15 Years of Dedicated Work, We Bring Sanitation Facilities, Hygiene Training, and SolarBuddy Lamps to East Sumba’s Remote Communities.
Our collaboration with Rotary International in Laindatang exemplifies the power of collective effort to bring clean water and health to those in need. Together, we are making a lasting impact.
On the second day of our work with Rotary International, we explored our major project in Laindatang. Celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Swiss Fair Future Foundation, this project focuses on access to Clean water, sanitation facilities, and combating infectious diseases. The Rotary has significantly contributed to funding this program, transforming the lives of the residents in this village where we have been working for two years.
Residents can now access clean water through numerous ferro-cement tanks and sanitary facilities. We have also organized training sessions to raise awareness about hygiene and health. The village’s 80 children show improved health, but monitoring this progress is crucial to maximising the benefits.
Our work continues. We are raising awareness among the approximately 600 inhabitants of this highly remote and electricity-deprived village. Thanks to our intervention, residents can now wash their hands at East Sumba’s first handwashing station. This unprecedented regional project is a significant achievement for all of us.
It is essential to teach children what a sink is, how to use a faucet, and how to wash their hands. With clean water, learning to cook healthily and eating together becomes more accessible. Access to light is also crucial for children. Without lights, the steep paths leading to school are dangerous.
We addressed this issue by giving each child a SolarBuddy lamp, generously donated by our Rotary friends in Australia. This initiative enables children to move around safely and complete their homework in the evening.
During their visit, Rotary members directly observed the quality of our work, expertise, and field operations. They visited the drilling site, experienced the challenges we faced, and gained a better understanding of our work. They communicated continuously and reassuringly with Alex and our team members in the field. This remarkable collective effort will be replicated in other regions with limited access to clean water.
We cordially invite all captivated by this story to explore our photo gallery, witness this extraordinary effort, and further engage with our mission through our Instagram account.
