We Art The People: How Dadang Pranoto Uses Art to Inspire East Sumba’s Youth and Support Fair Future Foundation’s Mission of Providing Medicine, Clean Water, and Education to Isolated Communities
Dadang Pranoto, known for his work with Navicula and Dialog Dini Hari, dedicated three weeks in East Sumba to helping isolated communities through our programs. On his last day, he conducted an educational orientation activity for SMAK Andaluri School students in Waingapu.
During his visit, Dadang shared his experiences, discussed his art, and highlighted the impact of small but significant changes. He used examples to show how powerful artistic expression can be in changing perspectives and fostering interactions between diverse groups, bridging gaps between local and international communities.
Dadang believes that art is a powerful tool for change. With decades of experience in the music industry, he has seen how music can inspire action and unite people around common causes. Icons like Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and Fela Kuti have used their influence to lead social justice campaigns, demonstrating the transformative potential of the arts.
Dadang stressed the importance of hard work and commitment to achieve success, emphasizing the considerable time spent honing artistic skills since childhood. He highlighted the central role that determination plays in the journey of any artist or activist.
“Art is a powerful tool for change, and Dadang Pranoto’s visit to East Sumba has shown us the profound impact it can have on our youth and communities. Together, we can create meaningful change.” – Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future.
Students recognized the alignment between Fair Future’s mission and Dadang’s artistic endeavours, recognizing the universal potential for change through activities such as providing medicine and clean water and harnessing artistic creativity and language.
