How Kawan Sehat Health Agents Are Trained to Provide Lifesaving Medical Care and Prevent Infections, Diseases, and Injuries in Remote Communities Without Access to Healthcare.
Kawan Sehat agents learn to treat wounds, manage diseases like malaria, and prevent infections, providing essential care in regions without healthcare access.
The training provided to Kawan Sehat t health agents is thorough, practical, and designed to equip them with the skills needed to deliver lifesaving care in remote areas. These women undergo extensive education in basic medical procedures, wound care, infection prevention, and disease management. They learn how to treat a wide range of conditions—from everyday injuries to chronic diseases—and how to recognize the signs of more severe health issues that require immediate attention.
A core component of their training is preventing illnesses from becoming fatal. They are taught to manage diseases like malaria, dysentery, and respiratory infections, all common in regions with poor access to clean water and sanitation. Kawan Sehat agents learn to treat wounds quickly to prevent infections from spreading and to provide emergency care for accidents like burns, broken bones, or snake bites.
“The training Kawan Sehat agents receive is not just medical knowledge—it is the power to save lives in communities where healthcare is out of reach.” – Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future Foundation.
In addition to hands-on medical skills, they are trained to use the “Kawan Sehat” app, which we developed specifically for ultra-rural regions. This app is a medical reference guide, helping agents determine the correct treatment for various conditions and manage patient records effectively. The app also allows them to monitor ongoing cases and track patients’ progress, ensuring continuity of care under the guidance of Fair Future’s medical teams.
The training goes beyond technical knowledge—it also instils confidence and leadership. These women learn how to educate their communities about hygiene, disease prevention, and the importance of seeking early treatment. Through this process, they become healthcare providers and health educators, promoting a culture of well-being in their villages.
