Rotary and Fair Future Launch 2,224 SolarBuddy Lamps with support from the East Sumba Government
Political unity and humanitarian innovation bring light to isolated schools in rural Indonesia.
Enlightened Partnerships – An Important Evening with Rotary and East Sumba Leaders | In Waingapu, Fair Future and Kawan Baik partnered with Rotary Australia and East Sumba political leaders for a powerful evening of unity and shared vision. At the heart of the event was the celebration of a significant milestone: the arrival of 2,224 SolarBuddy lamps that will illuminate some of Indonesia’s most remote villages.
Vice Regent Johan Hani graced the evening with his presence, accompanied by key figures from the worlds of health and social affairs. Alongside Rotary’s John Kevan, they discussed dignity, access to water, education, solar lighting, and healthcare as pillars of sustainable development. John delivered a moving 20-minute speech in Indonesian, building bridges through humility and commitment.
The evening was also an opportunity for reflection and gratitude. Ayu unpacked the primary healthcare backpack used by our Kawan Sehat workers, revealing its contents, which save lives every day in areas lacking electricity, water, and access to medical care. The SolarBuddy lamps, now officially integrated into East Sumba’s development strategy, were proudly presented.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to the entire Fair Future and Kawan Baik field teams. Symbolic gifts were exchanged between Rotary and local leaders, cementing years of trust and collaboration.
Ino provided a compelling overview of our programs in water, health, and rural empowerment. Alex and Ayu reminded us that real change begins with local leadership, transparency, and concrete, urgent action.
The evening concluded with a group photo filled with laughter and a shared sense of purpose. One thing became clear: such partnerships are not a formality; they are fundamental. Together, we are lighting the way to a fairer, healthier, and more dignified future.
