Malaria mosquito nets in East Sumba empower families with tools and prevention education.
450 long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets (LLINs) were distributed across ultra-rural villages in East Sumba, Indonesia, as part of a collaborative effort by Fair Future and Kawan Baik Indonesia.
Each family received not just a net, but also printed guidance and a sewing kit for repairs, ensuring effective and prolonged use. Education is critical; improper usage often leads to nets being employed as garden fences or volleyball nets. Our teams dedicated time to emphasise why correct usage is vital; each net can potentially save lives by preventing deadly malaria infections.
By integrating distribution with education, we are empowering families to protect themselves, especially children and pregnant women, from one of the world’s deadliest diseases. This initiative is more than just a handout; it’s a lifesaving intervention with the potential to drastically reduce malaria morbidity and mortality rates in these vulnerable communities, like their is so many here in East Indonesia.
