After years of walking to find dirty water, villages like Laindatang, Hambarita or Mbinudita can now access clean water from community reservoirs they built themselves. Clean water reduces diarrhea, skin infections, and fear. This is a true reflection of dignity in daily life.



Everyone is at work here in East Sumba

Since August 2021, our teams have been at work. We have built over thirty Clean Water Tanks and now nearly twenty sanitary facilities for the Water Connections Project here in Mbinudita, East Sumba.

This work could not be done with our hands because the staff of Fair Future and Kawan Baik are on site; it comes down to eight people employed on the sites. These women and men from this poor and ultra-rural region are the real heroes of the projects we are carrying out.

They are the ones who, for years (previously with the Mbinudita school), have been working with us. They are part of our family now.

Water connections create a clean water network for families from rural areas in eastern Indonesia. Each facility includes gender-specific toilets, showers and access to life-sustaining drinking water.

These water points also aim to improve people's health, especially children. From a single borehole, we create water networks using the slope of the land, solar energy or hydrodynamic pumps.

Fair Future regularly presents reports establishing what we have achieved in all our necessary actions. The document that we offer you here explains what, all together, we have been doing over the past twelve months as part of this colossal project, Water Connections, Mbinudita Site. As a reminder, this project aims to provide access to drinking water and sanitation to more than 2,500 people whose homes are scattered over nearly 10 hectares.

New complete and healthy sanitary facilities in Ritta, East Sumba

We do not stop; the teams of Fair Future and Kawan Baik foundations have already built, as part of the #waterconnections project, site of #mbinudita #sdmbinudita, more than thirty (30) tanks of more than 6000 litres, six ( 6) complete sanitary facilities including two toilets, showers, laundry washing and water collection point. More than 10,000 meters of PVC pipes have been buried, connecting all these installations. We still have a lot of work to do. It’s intense activity.

In rural villages in eastern Indonesia, where we work, toilets are very rare. This is particularly a problem in rural areas where a third of the population must continually defecate in the open air. For Bapak Rinto, it is a relief and a great pride that his family finally has a toilet, thanks to the support of Fair Future and Kawan Baik Indonesia.

The past few weeks have been hectic for all of us here in East Sumba. What a titanic job we are all doing with the help of our friends, the villagers, and members of the rural communities of Mbinudita. The nights are short, and the days are very long and hot too. Imagine, friends, it’s almost 40°, and we work under a blazing sun, which almost anaesthetizes us if we don’t hydrate ourselves enough.

Living without toilets and without water, Fair Future is changing that

We are in the process of completing new clean water tanks and new sanitation facilities in Mbinudita. Our teams are on-site with the help of the entire local community, women, men and children who help us in this work. These infrastructures are made of Ferro-cement, like all the others, with the difference that we give the possibility to the villagers to choose the type of construction. Once again, this type of collaboration works wonders on site because it allows everyone to learn and work.

Building a water storage tank is something simple but complicated at the same time. Working day and sometimes night too, sleeping under challenging conditions, eating little and walking a lot… This is the life of the Fair Future and Kawan Baik teams in the field, every day for months with the support and unconditional support of the villages where we are setting up a new program. We are very involved in all the constructions, be it the reservoirs but also the healthy sanitary installations, the water connections, the filtration systems, and so many other things which, put together, create infrastructures which make them more useful, simpler life.
