For the past two years, Fair Future’s Primary Medical Care program has provided care to tens of thousands, 68% of whom are children and vulnerable individuals.
This program allows sick and injured individuals in the most remote regions to receive primary medical care. Without this program, these populations would have no other medical resources besides the “Kawan Sehat” health agents we train.
“Kawan Sehat” Health Agents
Today, about fifty women from the most remote villages are trained as “Kawan Sehat” health agents. Over two years, we have likely saved hundreds of lives, primarily those of children. Our fight against malaria, dengue, dysentery, tuberculosis, cholera, hepatitis A, and polio prevention is integral to this Primary Medical Care Program.
A Reinforced Program for 12 Months
With more than two years of experience, we are starting the third year of this program with a new 12-month phase beginning in August 2024. This program includes significant improvements in patient follow-up, care, and communication between all “Kawan Sehat” health agents and our medical teams, notably through the two applications we have developed -the Zero Malaria App and the Kawan Sehat App–. We will also collaborate with additional supervisory teams on the ground.
“Our Primary Medical Care Program is a lifeline for the most vulnerable. With your support, we can continue to save lives and provide hope where it’s needed most.” – Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future Foundation
Objectives and Needs
To increase our capacity, we must:
- Double the training days for our “Kawan Sehat” health agents from four to eight annually.
- Strengthen our medication stocks and develop our pharmacy.
- Acquire new medical equipment, such as manual blood pressure monitors and venom extraction devices.
- Develop detection methods for infectious or parasitic diseases such as malaria, dengue, and polio.
- Replenish stocks of rapid tests for malaria detection.
- Reinforce stocks of impregnated mosquito nets.
- Optimize the management of our “Kawan Sehat” health agents.
- Enhance the skills of our more than one hundred volunteers.
- Reprint training modules, including the “Kawan Sehats” book for children and our medical training book.
- Improve our logistics in the field, including food and transportation for our teams in areas inaccessible by road.
- …
The effect of the program
The Primary Medical Care Program preserves lives by preventing the escalation of illnesses or minor injuries. The Kawan Sehat health workers also play an instrumental role in preventing diseases such as malaria, dysentery, and polio by enlightening families on the principles of hygiene practices and knowledge related to water purification and adequate nutrition.
Funding is essential
Fair Future is one of the few medical providers in East Sumba, where 500,000 people live with severe shortages of food, water, and medical care. Our pharmaceutical stocks are currently low, and our Rumah Kambera pharmacy only has 20% of reserves left. Due to these shortages, we need to make selections. If we are unable to secure the necessary funding, we will have to thoroughly review the PMC program for continuation.
We require funding of CHF. 28,000.- to launch the first six-month phase of our upcoming PMC program, which will run for twelve months. Our foreign co-partners have agreed to cover all costs for the remaining six months.
With your support, we can maintain vital healthcare services and improve the well-being of people in this area. Let’s join forces and embrace real change. To donate, please visit our donation page. Every gesture helps us continue our mission.

This program has provided critical medical aid to children and vulnerable communities in remote regions.
Since December 2022, the #PrimaryMedicalCare initiative has significantly impacted ultra-rural communities in eastern Indonesia.
At the core of this program are Kawan Sehat health workers, who, with their dedication and commitment, provide unconventional medical care. This program signifies a transformative journey for these communities.
Local community agents develop strong bonds of trust with villagers, allowing them to understand and address their community’s challenges, ensuring acceptance of health practices, and gaining insight into local needs and beliefs. Fair Future teams frequently visit remote villages, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to helping the most vulnerable. These visits provide crucial support through training and resources for healthcare professionals, strengthening their skills and dedication.
Kawan Sehat health workers can enhance their capabilities beyond clinical expertise through continuing education, emphasizing patient communication, complex case management and disease prevention techniques. The program aims to prepare them to face common health problems such as infectious diseases, malnutrition and issues related to water and sanitation.
Ensuring a regular supply of medical equipment and medicines is a crucial part of the program, as it is vital to meeting the urgent healthcare needs in these isolated areas. In many communities, these resources are the only treatment alternatives available. Additionally, the program prioritizes patients’ psychosocial well-being by equipping healthcare professionals with the skills to meet their physical and emotional needs. This comprehensive strategy is crucial to achieving complete and lasting patient recovery.
The #PrimaryMedicalCare campaign is more than just a medical initiative; it is a movement of social transformation. Its goal is to improve accessibility to healthcare and develop local capacity, creating a healthier future for remote communities. This illustrates how dedication, ingenuity, and empathy can inspire meaningful and lasting progress. Our teams, including Alex, have travelled extensively to ultra-rural villages since November last year. During these visits, they met exceptional women who work in healthcare, preserving and saving lives. Due to the critical medical impact of our program, local authorities have recognized its value, and we will expand it further.
You are cordially invited to contribute to the #PrimaryMedicalCare program, which supports rural communities.
