The Comprehensive Final Report on Water Connections Phase 2 – Bringing Clean Water, Improved Sanitation, and Better Health to Rural Communities
Fair Future and Kawan Baik are pleased to share a link to four documents on the Water Connections Laindatang Phase 2 project, addressing malnutrition and infectious diseases. Sharing this report is essential as we continue to develop these projects.
We proudly announce that Phase 2 of the Water Connections project in Laindatang was completed last month. We’re now focusing on the next steps, delivering clean water and sustainable solutions to those in need.
These documents contain :
- The preliminary proposal;
- The initial financial plan;
- The evidence of acquisitions and investments;
- The final report for this Phase 2.
The Water Connections initiative in Laindatang is an integral part of the village’s efforts to improve living conditions and promote a better life for all residents, especially the 80 children aged six to twelve who attend the local school. Our teams on the ground attest that poverty is extreme in this area, as recognized by national authorities.
The primary goal is to promote healthy and peaceful living by implementing measures that provide access to safe and clean water and sanitation facilities. This also includes promoting hand hygiene and general cleanliness practices, teaching healthy lifestyle skills, improving the physical fitness of villagers and children, enhancing their diets, and encouraging them to adopt healthy lifestyles throughout their community.
Two years ago, we launched the first phase of the project. Currently, our teams are working on developing phase 3, which involves deep drilling. Additionally, we have implemented the “Nutrition for All” program and continue our efforts to eradicate malaria through the “Zero Malaria” campaign in Laindatang. Furthermore, the area is experiencing new advancements through the development of the “Primary Medical Care” program in this area.
Our unwavering commitment in Laindatang has turned the impossible into reality, bringing clean water and better health to those who need it most.” – Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future
All villagers have collaborated in building various infrastructures to facilitate a healthier lifestyle for children and reduce diseases and weight gain. These developments include ferrocement tanks, sanitation facilities, a network of HDPE pipes, and rainwater harvesting and filtration systems. These efforts result in a completed project that ensures good health throughout this area.
Our medical teams, nutritionists and specialists have designed and installed many informative posters in homes to educate children and adults on living virtuously through healthy practices. These efforts aim to train people to achieve better health outcomes. Read more in the report here.
Just a quick update on Phase 3: We are currently engaged in deep drilling and facing challenging conditions here in the village. As you may have seen on our website, we have made significant progress towards our goal of discovering water. However, I must admit that it has been an incredibly difficult journey so far—and there is still a long way to go!
Currently, all that remains is identifying and financing the solar pumping equipment (most likely Lorentz). The completion of the Phase 3 accounting will be communicated promptly as soon as it is translated into English.
We sincerely thank each of you for participating in this Water Connections initiative, which is helping us fight poverty, hunger, and infectious diseases—especially malaria—in the Laindatang region.

Laindatang Water Connections: A Revolution in Water Access to Transform the Lives of 600 Residents
From Education to Nutrition and Health: Our Story on the Radical Change in Laindatang Through Phases 2, 3, and the Start of Phase 4 of the #WaterConnections Project
The past four months have been intense work and remarkable progress for the Water Connections project in Laindatang, East Sumba. This project, which aims to provide clean water to an entire community, has reached the crucial milestones of phases 2 and 3 and is now entering phase 4. More than 600 people, including nearly 100 children attending Laindatang school, now benefit from clean water sources. Their lives have been transformed, and this change is only just beginning.
Access to clean water has a profound impact on every aspect of life in this community. The education and training days we organized for children and their parents were essential in promoting healthy living. We taught them how to prevent disease, improve their diet and use available resources efficiently. Our training materials, in particular the six posters that we have produced, are valuable tools in this educational process. With clean water, gardening becomes an accessible and productive activity. Growing your vegetables is no longer a distant dream but a daily reality for the residents of Laindatang. We not only teach them how to grow these vegetables but also how to cook them to maximize their nutritional benefits. These skills are crucial in the fight against malnutrition, which mainly affects children in this region.
The drilling work, carried out with unequal intensity and determination, lasted three months. Although we are not yet finished, we are getting closer to the goal. The water is there and ready to be distributed throughout the Laindatang region. Thanks to our collective efforts, drilling was carried out for the first time in this region’s history.
Access to clean water is the foundation of our fight against infectious diseases such as malaria, polio, dengue and tuberculosis. Without clean water, these diseases continue to spread and threaten the health and lives of the population. Thanks to Fair Future, the Laindatang community finally sees a glimmer of hope in this fierce struggle.
We would like to warmly thank everyone who supports us in this mission, including Rotary Australia, who came to spend a week with us on-site. Your help is invaluable, and together, we manage to achieve miracles. The images we share today tell a story of resilience, progress and transformation. They are a reflection of our unwavering commitment to this community and our determination to create a better future. Look at these magnificent images. They demonstrate the positive changes brought about by the Water Connections project and our profound impact on the lives of the people of Laindatang. Let’s continue to move forward together, fight inequality, and provide these communities with the vital resources they need to thrive.
