Educating communities about Plasmodium parasites and their role in malaria transmission.
Beyond the rapid test, each screening includes education, explanation, and practical advice. This moment of dialogue often becomes the first real medical consultation families have ever received, turning a diagnosis into immediate protection.
With the East Sumba Malaria Prevention Project and the support of Rotary and Malaria Partners International, Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia built twenty malaria billboards for markets, schools and roadsides so that every journey becomes a health lesson about fever and protection.
Malaria lab training in East Sumba brought together 28 analysts from all health centres and the RSUD hospital. Under WHO-certified mentors, they refined slide reading and microscopy skills, strengthening diagnostic accuracy and treatment speed in rural Indonesia.
The Kawan Against Malaria program delivers Indoor Residual Spraying malaria operations in East Sumba. Trained teams spray bamboo and wooden homes, surface by surface, to kill mosquitoes and reduce transmission. Each treated house becomes a safer place for children and families.
Fair Future and Kawan Baik Indonesia lead a three-month malaria prevention project in East Sumba. The initiative combines lab training, awareness campaigns, indoor spraying, and the distribution of insecticide-treated nets to protect thousands of vulnerable families.
In Umalulu, nearly all children at a six-class primary school have already had malaria. With infection rates over 50% and national health budgets slashed, we’re launching an urgent study to understand and combat this deadly disease. Our goal: real, scalable solutions for one of Indonesia’s most affected regions.
We’re purchasing over 300 long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) to protect families from malaria in Umalulu and beyond. These high-quality, extra-resistant nets last over 5 years and are a crucial tool in our #ZeroMalaria program. Costing nearly $20 each, they are a major investment in health and prevention.
Fair Future Foundation is launching a vital malaria study in Umalulu, one of the most affected regions in East Sumba. This research will assess infection rates, risk factors, and healthcare needs to build an effective malaria response, ensuring long-term health solutions for this remote community.

Don’t confuse Dengue with Malaria. While Dengue is common in cities, Malaria is endemic in rural areas where we work. This photo shows the source of Malaria infection, mainly transmitted by infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Without treatment, Malaria can become severe and fatal within 24 hours. We continue the fight through our #ZeroMalaria program.
