How to Share the Kawan Sehat Story

The Indonesian edition of Kawan Sehat is more than a children’s book—it’s a guide for entire communities. Written in local language with relatable characters from East Sumba, it delivers simple but vital messages about health, hygiene, and respectful living. Though designed for children, many adults read it too and gain new knowledge. It’s a practical, culturally-rooted tool that spreads health literacy in places where such resources are rare.

How to Use Our Health Posters

This guidebook helps Kawan Sehat health agents explain each of Fair Future’s health education posters in schools and remote communities. With nine posters covering topics like malaria, nutrition, handwashing, tobacco, alcohol, and waste, the book offers practical tips and dialogue prompts for impactful, community-based health promotion. It turns every poster into a powerful teaching tool—accessible even to those with limited literacy, making prevention easier and more effective in ultra-rural areas.

Malaria Survey Training Guide

This training module prepares health agents and community surveyors to conduct malaria awareness and environment risk surveys in ultra-rural Indonesia. It explains how to use digital and paper-based tools, structure interviews, identify mosquito habitats, and collect data respectfully. The guide supports Fair Future’s “Kawan Lawan Malaria” program, aiming to stop the spread of malaria through education, local knowledge, and community action—where health systems are often absent.

Training Manual for Kawan Sehat

This practical medical 144 pages book in Indonesian, created by Fair Future and Kawan Baik, is used to train Kawan Sehat health agents in ultra-rural Indonesia. It contains 14 detailed modules covering primary care, wound treatment, fever management, infection control, child health, and essential first aid techniques. Designed for communities with no access to doctors, it helps agents provide lifesaving care, make safe referrals, and educate others on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.

How to Share the Kawan Sehat Story

This storytelling guide is designed to help teachers and health agents use the Kawan Sehat book with children in ultra-rural schools. It explains each page’s health message, offers cultural context, and provides tips to make learning interactive, emotional, and practical. Written in Indonesian and based on real challenges in East Sumba, it’s a tool to inspire lasting behavior change through stories that children understand and remember.

Quick Guide for Health Fieldwork

This compact field guide in Indonesian is designed for Kawan Sehat health agents providing primary medical care in remote areas without internet access. It includes essential procedures, medication guidelines, emergency contacts, and a practical catalog of tools and treatments. When the app can’t be used, this printed guide ensures agents can still give safe and effective care. It’s a daily resource, supporting diagnosis, referral, patient education, and accurate reporting directly from the field.

Build a 5000L Water Tank Easily

This illustrated guide explains how to build a 5,000-liter ferrocement water tank using simple materials, tools, and community labor. Designed for ultra-rural areas, it includes step-by-step instructions—from creating the base and rebar frame to plastering and installing taps. Durable, repairable, and easy to replicate, this tank provides clean water access for families who live far from infrastructure. It’s more than construction—it’s a blueprint for dignity, health, and self-sufficiency.

Clean Water and Healthy Toilets

This visual training module was created to teach the essentials of clean water and sanitation in ultra-rural areas. It explains what clean water really is, why sanitation matters, how to prevent diseases like diarrhea and typhoid, and how to build and maintain a healthy toilet. Designed for schools and community groups, it also introduces the five pillars of total sanitation. This guide helps people take simple, practical steps toward healthier lives through water access and hygiene.

Grow Food, Fight Malnutrition

This educational module teaches ultra-rural families how to grow their own gardens to fight malnutrition using local seeds and simple tools. It explains key nutrients children need—like protein, vitamins, and minerals—and links them to vegetables, fruits, and plants that can be grown at home. Step-by-step, it guides families through planting, harvesting, and cooking what they grow. This is not just gardening—it’s a path toward better health, stronger children, and food self-sufficiency.

Health Education Posters

Fair Future’s educational posters are created to share vital health messages in ultra-rural areas—where books, doctors, and phones are rare. Covering topics like malaria, nutrition, waste, tobacco, alcohol, and hygiene, each poster is designed for children and adults with limited literacy. They’re printed on fabric, hung in schools and homes, and used by health agents to spark conversation, learning, and change. Free to download, print, and share with your community.

Matawai: The Shades of Water

Matawai, The Shades of Water is a 15-minute documentary by Fair Future and Kawan Baik that reveals the daily struggle for access to clean water and sanitation in Eastern Indonesia. Through intimate storytelling and powerful visuals, it highlights the resilience of communities facing water scarcity and the transformative impact of sustainable solutions.

Ben Clarke, Australia / Youth Education Advocate

Watching The Day Night Changed moved me deeply. It’s not just a film about solar power—it’s a story about possibility. You see kids watching a movie for the first time, under real light, in their own school. That’s what change looks like. Quiet, real, and unforgettable.

Nathalie Vial - France / Youtubeuse

J’ai regardé The Day Night Changed deux fois.

Julie H. — Switzerland / Civil Engineer

A 115 m³ reservoir in a roadless village? That’s not just engineering, it’s defiance. Fair Future didn’t just bring water to Laindatang; they proved that people in forgotten places deserve the same dignity as anyone else. This is what meaningful infrastructure looks like.

Rambu Ester - Mbatakapidu

From Bahasa Indonesia: "There are no doctors here, but there is Rambu Angi, a Kawan Sehat health worker. When my child had a fever, she came on foot with her medical bag. She performed a test and administered the correct medication. Without her, we would be alone. She is our anchor."

Dr. Sophie Lang - UK

The Kawan Sehat health agents are a brilliant example of what happens when trust, training, and local knowledge come together. These women navigate rivers, walk hours, and still deliver quality care. They don’t replace the system—they are the system where none exists.

Andrew Scott — Australia

What Fair Future achieved at SDN Mbajik is outstanding. Bringing clean, reliable solar power to a school with no existing infrastructure requires creativity and grit. It's a model for small-scale, high-impact electrification in remote areas. These kids now have ligh, and a brighter future.

Tom Sanders - UK - Humanitarian Reporting

Alex’s words don’t read like press releases—they feel like journal entries from the frontlines. His reflections cut through the noise of NGO storytelling. You get honesty, struggle, small victories. It’s rare. And it’s what makes Fair Future stand apart.

Claire Berger – Maman & donatrice

Peter Smith, Australia / President, Rotary Club Mandurah

Fair Future’s work in East Sumba is a true model of what dedicated people can achieve. Our club is proud to collaborate with you. Your updates are a joy to read, and I hope we’ll meet in person soon. Wishing you and your team all the very best for the future!

Nicolas Perrin, Suisse / Logisticien humanitaire

David Miller - Rotary Member

I’ve followed Fair Future’s malaria campaigns closely. Their transparency, especially in how donations are used to fund mosquito nets and prevention tools, is rare. The scale may be local, but the impact is global. They remind us that solutions don’t always come from the top.

Jessica Harper - USA, Global Health Lecturer

Teaching students about malaria is one thing—seeing how Fair Future maps, educates, and protects isolated families in Indonesia gives it all meaning. Their team shares data and strategies that help inform global discourse. Their work deserves far more attention.

Emily Tan - Singapore, Public Health Researcher

Fair Future’s work in East Sumba offers insight into how grassroots data and education save lives. Their approach to malaria prevention is people-first and intensely local. As someone working in urban health policy, I find their community-led model both inspiring and essential.

Rambu Ida Djami - PEMDA, Sumba Timur

Alex and Ayu... You two are truly extraordinary, used by God for the welfare of the people of East Sumba... All the challenges in the process, God has been involved in the program that you are fighting for... I am personally proud of you, the Kawan Baik and Fair Future team... May God accompany your journey to and from home safely and with abundant strength and health.

Philippe Lautier - Swiss Engineer, Fair Future Member

The work you do and the energy with which you persist in making a difference are like a constant shining sun in my life. The FFF demonstrates every day that it is possible to make a difference, which is admirable and humbling, especially in our comfortable Swiss surroundings. You are a role model whom I often talk to my children about, so that they understand that not everyone starts out in life with the same chances, and that we must share ours.

Dr. Emma Hughes - Fair Future Member

As a medical professional, I have always believed in the power of healthcare to change lives. Being a member of Fair Future has allowed me to contribute to something truly extraordinary. The foundation’s work in bringing Primary Medical Care to ultra-rural areas is not only life-saving but also transformative for entire communities. It is an honour to support such a dedicated and impactful organisation.

Lukas Schmid - Ingenieur, Deutschland

Sachant cela, ma petite contribution me semble énorme.

Rambu Viola - Volunteer, Fair Future - Kawan Baik

Being involved in education initiatives has been life-changing for me. Teaching children in remote villages is challenging, but seeing their smiles and progress makes every effort worthwhile. The experience has reshaped my purpose.

David Lee - Dietetician, Fair Future Supporter

Joining Fair Future as a member was one good decision I’ve made. Every month, I see real stories of families who now have access to healthcare and clean water thanks to our collective efforts. The foundation’s transparency and the incredible impact we make together are inspiring. I’m proud to be part of this community.

Jasmine Randin - Swiss watchmaker

As a Swiss Fair Future member, I stay connected to the real impact I’m making. Every update reinforces that my support is changing lives.

750,000+ lives impacted

Since 2008, thanks to your trust and support.
